Netnod’s response to the Norwegian consultation on establishing a robust infrastructure for precise and traceable time
Netnod has submitted a response to the Norwegian Metrology Service (Justervesenet) and the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) regarding their report Kartlegging av behov og utredning av løsninger for etablering av en robust infrastruktur for distribusjon av presist og sporbart klokkesignal.
Netnod supports the report’s recommendations to establish a robust, GNSS-independent infrastructure for time distribution in Norway. In the response, Netnod highlights that:
- A secure and traceable time signal is critical for reducing vulnerabilities in vital societal functions.
- The Swedish model, where Netnod operates the national time distribution system on behalf of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS), provides a strong reference for how to ensure technical stability and security.
- There are significant benefits to be gained from deepened Nordic cooperation in this area to maximize resilience for both civil preparedness and industry.
