Digital robustness is a management issue – Netnod launches Robust Digitalised Organisations

At a time when society’s digital dependencies are rapidly increasing, Netnod is launching its new service, Robust Digitalised Organisations (RDO). The service is a concrete management tool designed to help the public sector, companies providing critical services, and civil society take control of their critical digital vulnerabilities.

As digital systems have grown significantly within operations, security considerations have often lagged behind. Today, many organisations, not least within the municipal sector, are left with a legacy debt where management lacks a clear map of their actual vulnerabilities when systems are put under pressure.

RDO is aimed at operations where digital systems are absolutely crucial for production and vital societal functions. It aims to provide management with a comprehensive, decision-ready picture of the organisation's actual resilience.

"The driving force behind digitalisation is often to quickly roll out new services and create immediate value. However, when all focus is on delivering these benefits, security considerations and the responsibility for robustness tend to fade into the background. With Robust Digitalised Organisations, we want to make it clear that this is a management issue," says Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod.

By stress-testing the operations in a realistic scenario, RDO  reveals how communication and the division of responsibilities actually work during a crisis. The result is a concrete action plan for management. The work is based on the organisation's unique needs but simultaneously supports compliance with current legal requirements, such as the EU's new and stricter directive on cybersecurity, NIS2.

"Since 1996, Netnod has played a central role in securing the very backbone of the Internet through our IX nodes, DNS services, and the distribution of national time. Launching Robust Digitalised Organisations is a natural next step for us. We want to use our deep understanding of critical infrastructure to support other organisations in building genuine, long-term resilience," says Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod.
